JoeSportsFan

Let's face it, the Arizona Cardinals' fan base is new to this sort of thing.  Since moving from St. Louis in 1988, the Cardinals have exactly 2 playoff appearances, this season included.  Never made it to the NFC Championship, never hosted a playoff game before this year.  Furthermore, the Cardinals have ranked in the bottom half of average attendance in each one of the past 20 years they've called AZ home.

What is a rookie fan to do when the home team find themselves in the NFC Championship game and needs some extra support from the illustrious 12th man?

Look no further than the namesake of the mascot, my friends.  Very easy.

Arizona Cardinals Birdman

Name more than three players on the team?  Um, yea, probably not.  Next question please.

Dress up like a bird man?  Yea, I can do that.  We're the "Cardinals," right?

Our fan hunters decided to take a stroll through cyberland to see if the Cardinals' NFC Championship foe - who also shares a name with a bird (Eagles, for those following along) - is also supported by a fan base that succumbs to the pressure of dressing foul (-2 blogging points for missing obvious "fowl" pun).

Philadelphia Eagles Fans

Official analysis; the Philadelphia Eagles were established in 1933.  This has allowed the fan base to explore various options over the years.  They have experience in debauchery, intoxication, and creative belligerency.

Long story short - our fan hunters see the Philadelphia Eagles winning this one.

Hey, no one else can intelligently explain why the 9-7 Cardinals are playing the 9-6-1 Eagles in the NFC Championship game....we thought we'd take a shot.

Yeah, well I live down the road from Sun Devil Stadium, so I refuse to play the "Sports Geek" card on that bit of useless knowledge.

Mark D - good catch. Glad you knew what I "meant" to say. However, uour knowledge on such topics is, well, disturbing.

You fools have no idea what kind of fans there are in AZ. We the diehards have been with this team from the get go and yes it has been long and hard, but it is here and we will show up and it will be the loudest you've heard even in Philly

The shirtless Eagle woman and her hairy chest is the winner.

This is only their 3rd season in Glendale. Prior to that, they played 18 seasons in Tempe, AZ. Still metro Phx however...

To me, it's a toss up between lower-right bird man and the back-tat Eagles fan for "biggest idiot".

Which part is most bizarre, Patrick?
Patrick, January 13, 2009 05:01 AM

Gibson never understood why it made some teammates uncomfortable when he slowly coated his stick in pine tar.
