December 11, 1995
On the this day 14 years ago, Texas businessman Tom Hicks purchased the
Dallas Stars franchise a year after they moved from Minnesota.
Hicks' tenure as the grand poobah of the Dallas Stars has been worthwhile. From a business standpoint, the Stars' franchise has rapidly increased to a value of $273 million (
Forbes) since 1995 - which ranks #6 in the NHL. Under Hicks' reign, the Stars has won seven Division Championships, three Western Conference crowns, two Presidents' Trophies and the 1999 Stanley Cup Championship - which featured the infamous
Brett Hull illegal-skate-in-the-crease game winning goal.
Despite an insanely productive career, the moment served to be defining picture of Hull's career. Well, besides that wonderful feathered mullet that he sported during his time with the Blues.
Impress your co-workers: Tom Hicks owns and operates Hicks Sports Group (clever name), which owns the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Stars, the Mesquite Championship Rodeo and fifty percent of Liverpool FC.
