September 21st, 1991

The United States announces its basketball team roster for the 1992 Olympics, which was the first to be comprised of professional players due to a 1989 rule change.  The squad was collectively known as the "Dream Team" and inspired truly remarkable pieces of art, like the one featured below.

Dream Team t-shirt

Truth be told, that artist was a real wizard.  Symmetrically positioning caricatures of white dudes and accurately portraying Chris Mullin's high fade is no easy task.  Believe me.

Of the twelve players on the team, ten were included on 1996's list of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History.

Included: Barkley, Bird, Drexler, Ewing, Magic Johnson, Jordan, Malone, Pippen, Robinson and Stockton.

Not so much: Christian Laettner and Chris Mullin.

Impress your co-workers: The Dream Team and head coach Chuck Daly did not call a single timeout during the entire 1992 Olympic tournament.

Jason - that white dude is John Stockton. Hence, no buttcut.

I know for a fact that Laettner was a late addition to the team, after most of the Dream Team memorbilia was already created. I assume Drexler was also a late addition and therefore also not available for the T-Shirt printings.

Laettner isn't even on that t-shirt and neither is Drexler. I get not including Laettner, but to exclude Drexler is unforgivable.

I'm kind of displeased with Laettner's buttcut on that t-shirt. Doesn't embody it appropriately.

Magic Johnson once said that "if God made a basketball player it was Chris Mullin." No joke. Once he got on the wagon, Mullin was one of the better offensive players of his time with his shooting and passing....oh, and his good looks.
