When big things happen in the sports world, it can only mean one thing - headline warfare.

The biggest sports sites all broke out their most puntastic headlines to capture the moment after the Phillies clinched the NLCS and a spot in the World Series to defend their title. We're not sure if you know this or not, but the first syllable in the word "Phillies" is a headlining goldmine...

Phils-headline5

Phils-headline2

While the other sites bet everything their had on the "Re-Phil" line, the folks in Bristol called their bet and raised them a second masterpiece...

Phils-headline

They don't call ESPN the "worldwide leader in cheesy headlines" for nothing.

Is it just me or should the second photo be on the O-face page instead or perhaps an O-Phace page

Fresh Jive, "More than a Phil-ing" would have been tremendous. Headline writers have a knack for integrating 70s/80s rock references into their headlines.

How 'bout: "Ryan shows 'em Howard do it"?

Might like a rectal examination, I find these headlines ful-phil-ling

I didn't see Dane Cook this year reminding me that there's only ONE October.... How unfortunate.
Fresh Jive, October 22, 2009 01:10 PM
See, I knew someone could do better. You think, JB? I could really use some ESPN bank. Since you guys are in tight with ESPN now, you think you could recommend me to provide them with freelance asshole comments?

No Red October headlines? Dirty bastards!

Fresh Jive might a future in the headline writing industry. And what a lucrative industry it is.

Other possibilities include: phil-atio, phil-ling it, cop a phil, more than a phil-ling, and surely many better than these.
